The
level of domestic violence suffered by men is insignificant and cannot warrant
any form of intervention, a men’s forum on gender organisation
Padare-Enkundleni said, despite growing sentiments that males were equally
exposed to gender based violence as females.
Why
it is when it comes to issues of abuse men are labelled in bad light yet there
are women who also abuse their husbands even to the extent of killing them?
The
law in Zimbabwe recognises that both men and women can fall victim to the
scourge. The Domestic Violence Act has also broadened the definition of
domestic violence to encompass wicked acts done against men.
According to the Domestic Violence Act, domestic
violence means any unlawful act, omission or behaviour which results in death
or the direct infliction of physical, sexual or mental injury to any
complainant by a respondent. From this definition, one can see that anyone is
capable of perpetrating domestic violence and this means anyone can be a
victim. Thus the law should protect both men and women from domestic violence.
Below is a video of an abusive woman.
If we say domestic violence suffered by men
cannot warrant any form of intervention then what should they do in case of abuse?
Should they keep quiet? There are some women who are abusive, it might not be
physical but fact is some women are so abusive.
